The Beacon

Excelsior Classes student-run newspaper

The Beacon began in 2010 as a student-run newspaper. This student club helps homeschool students develop real-world skills as they work collaboratively each month — meeting multiple deadlines — to produce a digital newspaper distributed to homeschool students and families. The content is mainly news and feature articles about Excelsior faculty, classes, community, students and alumni. Above all, the purpose is to uphold Godly standards as students learn the art and craft of journalism.

These homeschool students from all over are a talented group of students with a variety of skills, backgrounds and interests coming together as a team for one school year. The Beacon staffers learn to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards, while working under deadline pressure in a collaborative environment to produce a newspaper that is both glorifying to God and of benefit and interest to its readers.
