Chess Club (Beginner or Intermediate)
Chess is marvelous! Have you heard of its benefits for health? for mental acuity? for attention and focus? for planning and strategic capabilities? or even for the simple increase in IQ scores?
Join Chess Coach Jon Santos for some great learning and fun! Meeting in eight week sessions, both beginner and intermediate players will hone their skills and abilities all while receiving personal feedback on their game! Participants will also pick up common chess openings, middle game ideas, tricky tactics, and general strategies that are used in common play.
Students will learn about the game, play each other, and identify areas for improvement in their strategy and execution. Using two useful software platforms to provide content knowledge and gaming, students will enjoy this interactive, tactile, and fun experience.
Enrollment is broken into eight-week sessions, priced at $100 per student for each session. Tuesdays are for beginners and Thursdays are for intermediate skill level. The first session for both groups will be held on October 15 and is a combined session for orientation.
- Session 1 – Beginning week of October 12 (on October 15 for both clubs) and ending week of December 7; excludes break week of Thanksgiving
- Session 2 – Beginning week of January 11 and ending week of March 8; excludes break week of February 22
- Session 3 – Beginning week of March 15 and ending week of May 10; excludes break week of March 29
If you are not logged into your account, you may see a requirement for a 30% deposit to register; however, there is no charge to reserve for a club. Payment is due to teacher one week prior to first club meeting of the session in order to determine if the minimum number has been met.
Parents, let Jon Santos know if you are interested in forming a parent chess club! Adults love chess too!
