Bonjour et Bienvenue. In this course, Chez Mon Escargot (At My Snail’s House), an exciting adventure in learning French, students will enter into an adventure guided by a very special companion- their own adopted escargot (a snail shell will be snail-mailed to each student at the start of the semester).

Students meet once a week for a live, interactive class where they will learn the necessary vocabulary through pictures, games, conversations, videos, and other media to talk about their snail and build their snail a home. They will learn basic vocabulary such as colors, numbers, foods, and other relevant French terms while practicing pronunciation.

During the week, students will interact with the material and add something to their snail’s home that represents their snail. Because their escargot speaks only French, students can describe their snail’s home by the end of the semester in this creative, personalized project that makes learning French meaningful. By the end of the semester, students will have established a strong introductory French foundation that supports future coursework, language proficiency growth, and success in secondary-level French programs.

With a warm and encouraging classroom culture, plenty of oral practice, and a celebration showcase at the end of the semester, this course helps students build authentic French skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for future language learning. So, are you ready? Shell we learn French? 😄 🐌

Lisa Reissig started taking French at the age of twelve and fell in love with the language. That love has never left her, and it influences what she brings into the classroom.

She majored in French at Wheaton College, Illinois where she had the privilege of spending two summers in France that deepened her fluency and also her love of French culture. She earned a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. A degree that helped build the foundation in how people learn and how to teach in ways that help students remember.

After working in the public school system, where she taught middle school French through AP French, she left the classroom to raise and homeschool her two daughters. Homeschooling her daughters is one of the biggest blessings in her life, and seeing her daughters walk and grow in their faith is a joy. Home schooling also sharpened her ability to identify each learner’s needs and tailor instruction to the individual rather than the crowd.

Madame Reissig taught online for several years before taking a break for family reasons. She looks forward to helping students develop a love of language, which points them to the creator of language. Language learning strengthens students’ skills in their native language, sharpens critical thinking, and builds surprising connections to history, culture, literature, and the world at large.

When she is not working, she loves to cross-stitch, read, eat chocolate, and play with her spoiled Cockapoo at her home in beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She is active in her church, where she loves to encourage other homeschoolers and others in their faith.
