The last two-hundred years has been a search for Shangri-La. After Napoleon, politicians, poets, clergyman, philosophers, historians, and others had ideas of what it would take to create heaven on earth. Various ideologies became institutionalized throughout the western world. This course examines what was tried, how it played out, and what was the result. We know, of course, much went wrong. This period of history is awash with pain and suffering beyond imagination.
What is the Christian to think? Is Christianity the answer to the world’s problems? If yes, then has it changed things? Can we discern God’s redemption plan as we study modern history? We will discuss these topics all along the way.
This course is for thinkers. Students will analyze, synthesize, form opinions, and support those opinions with sound arguments.
