This course will teach students how to use art techniques to create detailed, original artworks, based on their own imagination. Each lesson will incorporate different mediums to develop the skills needed to create original characters, creatures, buildings, maps, and machines, as well as developing the world these creations would belong to. Using acrylic and watercolor paint, ink, pencils, and other tools, students will grow their personal skills, mastery, and comprehension, while also developing a unique artistic style. This course is a perfect next step for creative students wanting to take their artwork and imaginations to the next level, giving a structured framework and introduction to various kinds of artwork, as well as introductions to complex artistic concepts that may be outside of the student’s comfort zone. From creating landscapes for the background of an epic fight scene, developing a steampunk machine, or just learning how to draw a cozy cottage, this is the next step for your creative process. The skills learned in this course will help students grow as artists and creatives in their personal life, or serve as a first step into concept art, professional illustration, and other creative fields. The mediums featured in this course are acrylic, watercolor, mixed media/collage, and pen and ink.
As this is an upper level class, students will be required to have taken art courses previously, specifically the Illustration and Visual Storytelling course, as this is meant to be a deeper exploration of the concepts given in that course, as well as utilizing the tools and mediums learned within. Each week will be packed with information and experimentation, so please keep this in mind when planning your course load.

Rebekah Clark is an artist, author, and teacher who was born in the mountains but spent most of her childhood in Beaumont, Texas. She is the oldest of seven, many of whom have attended Excelsior Classes. While growing up, Rebekah would make up stories with her stuffed animals and would play them with my younger brothers. Eventually, her storytelling adapted into a love for artwork and writing. She loves art and color, strong emotions and stories, and creating new worlds for stories.

Rebekah graduated from Louisiana Christian University in 2021 and self-published her first picture book shortly after. Since then, she has worked as an art teacher and freelance illustrator, helping other small book projects as an illustrator. Her first official book, Take That, Hurricane!, a picture book focusing on hurricane recovery, was released in 2024 and since then she has released a sequel, as well as being the illustrator for the Founders' Ministries Lessons for Truth and Grace board book series.

Rebekah credits taking courses with a passionate teacher for her becoming an artist. As a teacher, her joy resides in helping other artists find their purpose.
