The Beacon

Both a student-run newspaper and podcast for homeschoolers

The Beacon began in 2010 as a student-run newspaper and in 2025 an audio podcast, The Audio File, was added. Both of these student clubs help high school homeschool students develop real-world skills as they work collaboratively each month, on deadline to produce both a digital newspaper and an audio podcast distributed to homeschool students and families. The content is mainly news and feature articles about faculty and students taking classes at Excelsior Classes. Above all, the purpose is to uphold Godly standards as students learn the art and craft of journalism.

These homeschool students from all over are a talented group of students with a variety of skills, backgrounds and interests coming together as a team for one school year. The Beacon staffers learn to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards, while working under deadline pressure in a collaborative environment to produce a newspaper that is both glorifying to God and of benefit and interest to its readers.
