Dr. Brigid Kharoufeh holds a B.A. in French and a B.S. in French Education from Miami University of Ohio, an M.A. in French from Bowling Green State University, and a Ph.D. in French from Ohio State University.
In the fifth grade, Brigid’s family moved to Belgium for several years, which is when her love for French began. She attended a French-speaking school where she learned to speak French through being immersed in it every day without any prior knowledge of the language. It was very challenging, rewarding, and life changing! Through her study-abroad experiences, she fell in love with exploring different cultures. Brigid loves how developing relationships with people from other cultures continually opens her eyes not only to different ways of thinking but also to her own beliefs and preconceptions. Brigid believes the best way to relate to others is to learn their language. In fact, language itself is a window into culture!
Brigid loves to teach and share her passion for the French language and culture with others. She has had the opportunity to teach students of all different ages: elementary, middle school, high school, and college. While completing her M.A. and Ph.D., she was able to combine and pursue many of her passions at once: learning, studying literature, teaching, and traveling.
More significant to her than all of these experiences, however, has been the blessing of having a family with her husband. For the past nine years, they have homeschooled their two children. When she is not busy with homeschooling, taking care of her household, and teaching French, she enjoys gluten-free baking, reading, jogging, hiking, and studying God’s Word.
