Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. This class will delve into the  biological, social, environmental, cultural, and religious factors that effect the human experience as they relate to both cognitive and physical development. Understanding how people perceive the world is key to understanding how and why we think, do and say what we think, do and say.

Through understanding theories of development, perception, behavior and interaction, we will begin to unpack a greater understanding for the thoughts and actions of both ourselves as well as others. We will touch on many topics within Psychology including: Neuropsychology, Human Development, Gender, Perception, Learning, Memory, Motivation, Emotion, Stress, Personality, Therapies, and Abnormal Psychology.

We will dive into theories of Psychology from a Christian perspective. Activities and discussions are aimed at conveying information about the topic as well as assisting the students in gaining a better understanding of who they are and who God is calling them to be. Students will gain a strong understanding for the range of ideas and subfields within Psychology as well as begin developing the skills to challenge research and theories. Strong emphasis will be given to applying theories to real-life examples and experiences.

This is probably my favorite Excelsior class I have ever taken! I learned so much about psychology and how it points to God and his wonderful creation. Mrs. B is such a wonderful teacher and person; you can really feel the love she has for psychology, God’s word, and her students. I cannot recommend enough!!
