Foundations of World Geography

In this year-long course, students will learn about the physical geography of God’s amazing world! We will begin by focusing on map reading skills and move on to study four different spheres (the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere). By examining different kinds of maps – political, physical, climate, population, etc. – students will also learn the locations of countries around the world. This course provides a strong background for the study of cultural geography at the high school level.

Susan Eggers loves learning about the past and the people of our world, and sharing that love with her students. She attended Wake Forest University as a William Louis Poteat scholar, where she earned her B. A. in History, graduating magna cum laude. Continuing her studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she received her M. A. in Russian history and completed additional hours of graduate coursework toward a Ph. D. While in graduate school, Susan received grants to conduct research in the Lenin Library and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art in Moscow, the National Library and the Russian State Historical Archive in St. Petersburg, the Slavic and East European Library at the University of Illinois, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. She has presented conference papers across the country and has published several articles on Russian history.

This was our second year with Excelsior Classes. After traditional homeschooling and laying down the foundation for independent course work, our family learned about Excelsior Classes through extensive research. We are delightfully pleased with not only the teachers, but the Christian foundations and how each instructor incorporates into their classes. My daughter who is not much of a history/geography kind of gal, LOVES learning about the world with Mrs. Eggers. She not only looks forward to class each week, but is requesting to take another course taught by Mrs. Eggers. She enthusiastically interacts with the students and her knowledge of the subject material is evident in how she teaches the students.
