$89.40
This course, a follow up to Illustration and Visual Storytelling, will teach students how to create picture books. The purpose of this course is to create a completed picture book based on an existing work of literature. This can include a famous story, a fairy tale, Bible Story, Historical event, or legend. Students will learn how to adapt a text, how to pick illustrations and create a signature style, and how to design an interesting cover.
This course will explain the process of book creation from brainstorming, scripting, thumbnailing, character and art design, and cover design. It will also cover both traditional and digital art, basic layout skills and technologies, and other skills that can be used for book production and art projects. Students will go through the process of picture book creation and finish the course with a finished product that can be used for a portfolio or for the inspiration for personal projects.

Rebekah Hair is an artist, author, and teacher who was born in the mountains but spent most of her childhood in Beaumont, Texas. She is the oldest of seven, many of whom have attended Excelsior Classes. While growing up, Rebekah would make up stories with her stuffed animals and would play them with my younger brothers. Eventually, her storytelling adapted into a love for artwork and writing. She loves art and color, strong emotions and stories, and creating new worlds for stories.
Rebekah graduated from Louisiana Christian University in 2021 and self-published her first picture book shortly after. Since then, she has worked as an art teacher and freelance illustrator, helping other small book projects as an illustrator. Her first official book, Take That, Hurricane!, a picture book focusing on hurricane recovery, will release this year.Â
Rebekah credits taking courses with a passionate teacher for her becoming an artist. As a teacher, her joy resides in helping other artists find their purpose.
